3 Letter Domain Names - Current Trends

As more and more companies recognize the value in owning their 3-Letter acronym domain, the investor, speculator and broker markets for these domains has taken off. It's not surprising to find 3-Letter .com domains selling in the $xx,xxx to $xxx, xxx range (and even a few in the $x,xxx, xxx range plus, such as sex.com @ $12 Million)

Letter quality plays a major role in the current valuation of 3-letter domains, with premium letter combos demanding the highest prices.

So what are the premium letters? General concensus states that the most desirable letters (by demand and useage) are:

A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, L, M, N, O, P, R, S, T

Lesser premium letters include:

J, K, U, V, W

Lower quality letters in today's market include:

Q, X, Y, Z

With these considerations, though, come many exceptions. In much of the asian marketplace, the lower quality letters are in high demand, as are domains of these combos in this quickly emmerging web marketplace.

Further affecting valuations in today's marketplace is the continued decreased supply in non-end-user 3-letter domains. By this observation, as more and more 3-letter domains in all the major extensions fall into companies hands (known as domain "end-users"), the remaining number of 3-letter domains held by speculators decreases. As supply decreases and demand for 3-letter domains continues to grow, prices continue to rise. In many ways, today's 3-letter domain market is very much a seller's market.
